Research is considered mother of science and in shadow of science and technology the development roads are leveled .

 

The research and methodology are considered total systematic and planned activities which moves in context of theoretical and practical promotion of different science like basic science , agricultural and medical science, humanities , art  and technology and finally led to improvement if increase and efficiency , productivity , manufacturing new products rendering the new services , tools and manufacturing products , or application of new methods of production , improvement of processes , organizational systems and methods.

 

The research and development unit of National Iranian Oil Eng. And Construction Company was established in 2000 in context of institutionalizing and integrating the research plans and for assisting performance f projects and plans of this company.

 

These plan include codification and execution of coordinating and supervising , development and current policies of oil industry with full attention and seeks and presents the appropriate scientific and practical approaches for purpose of development of technology in this industry so that by applying the due results of research the objectives and goals of losses and charges reduction and increase of incomes , promotion of efficiency and also optimized  utilization and operation of installations and equipment

 

Completed Research Plans:

 

-         Feasibility Plan and Technical and Economic Study of DMC Process for crude filtration , Middle East for deletion of Mercaptan

 

The impurities like H2S and RSH are generally cause bad smell of corrosion and air pollution after burning in hydrocarbons . Therefore deletion of such compositions is so important . By assistance of such process H2S reaches less than 5ppm in crude oil 100 ppm and mercaptans C1-C4 reach less than 50 ppm from 4000 ppm . In this research plan the feasibility for DMC unit with capacity of 60000bb1/d of crude oil has had acceptable results.

-         Project of isomerization process of light linear paraffin for promotion of petrol octane number

 

Construction of isomerization units of Naphtha in near future plays a valuable role in improvement of quality of the manufacturing petrol of Iran refineries . despite long age of refinery industry in Iran and has had source of much services for procurement of required fuel of Iran , but in construction of units under license we always needed purchase of technical know-how from foreign countries. By construction of isomerization unit of Arak Refinery , based on isomer technology which was designed by Oil Industry Institute , within the coming years the state filtration industry shall be witness for utilization of first Iranian unit under license. Invention of a plan under title of " process of light paraffin isomerization for producing petrol with high octane number is among the results of this plan  which has been registered in name of National Iranian Oil Engineering and Construction Company .

-         Project for study of transfer and processing the crude oil of Middle east in domestic refineries

This project is dealing with study of replacement of middle east countries crude oil in margin of Khazar Sea in Isfahan, Tehran , Arak and Tabriz refineries and on the other hand construction of  one or more new refineries  in northern regions of Iran for supplying the domestic needs and if required exporting their products .Also in this project 1- the existing status of countries (production amount , filtration quantity , consumption and export and transfer ways by some context  2- the future plans and development projects 3- the active foreign or multi-national companies who are active in field of exploitation and extraction , have been studied.

-         Comprehensive Plan for Identification of dye and coating stands in National Iranian Oil Eng. And Construction Company and revision of existing instructions dependent on climatic , local and processing conditions

Since this company is one of the biggest consumers of dye and coating in the county , with consideration to climate variety of places of establishment of installation and expansion p processes , these materials must enjoy special specifications while it is possible that such materials to be used without sufficient consideration to the conditions and instructions,. By execution of this project consumption of dye and coating in projects of this company has been assessed and suitable approaches have been resented with consideration to the environmental issues and with consideration to the standards and instructions it may be revised and corrected.

-         Project for Study of possibility for sing the used catalysts  of RFCC in mixed Portland cement industries.

The most significant result of such research project is approval of consumption possibility of catalyst residue of RFCC in cement industry and production of mixed cement and the most important achievement is removing  the RFCC catalysis residue from the environment and in fact observing the principles of stable development with the human and Islamic motivations.

  

Results of project performance

 

1-     property of RFCC catalyst residue , the necessity for stabilization of heavy metals existing therein and the considerable quantity of production of this material (as to residue producer) , at refinery location are significant factors that consumption of such materials in cement industry is distinct as most suitable approach in proper consumption management of such industrial residue .

2-     Based on the published results by the researchers and the due results of such project , adding this materials to the cement in the optimized percentages and/or less than the same whether grinded or not , generally cause strengthening the pressure strength of cement and concrete in mid and long term , so that with control of replacement percent and processing conditions the possibility for manufacturing the mixed cement with pressure resistance of mid and long term are existing .

4-     Development of financial sources of cement company

 

The due results of such research project led to modern achievement and such invention has been newly registered under title of “mixed cement with high pressure resistance by suing the catalyst residue in RFCC unit of refinery” in name of National Iranian Oil Engineering and Construction Company.

-         Project for study of using the oil coke as replacing fuel in cement factories

This project is dealing with study of possibility for using the oil coke of refinery in cement factory furnaces by considering all the side affairs including the positive and negative effect of such fuel in environment process of cement production and baking system and manufacturing products and also determining the percent of coke replacement capacity instead of fuel in any production lines of cement factory and determining the preparation equipment and adding the oil coke to baking system and finally by considering the chemical and processing conditions governing on production lines of envisaged factory to determine the replaceable percent of coke instead of consumed fuel in any production line and too tale action for determining the preparation and coke consumption equipment.

-         Project of protective coating of metal pipes

With consideration to the significance and high consumption of pipeline coating materials in projects of company , performance of projects in form of protective coating of metal pipes in selection of suitable coating seems required fro increasing the age of pipes and protecting the metal pipes carrying various buried oil materials at soil or sea bed against various corrosions and finally decreasing the expenses.

 

Due results of project performance:

1-     identification and execution of quality id card for all existing coating (tar, coal tar - natural tar, bitusil and polymer)

2-     performing the scientific and lab research for determining the benefits and defects of any coating and determining the usage cases and their application

3-     field research for determining the conditions of different environments as to corrosion

4-     research and study of coating status imposed by National Iranian Oil and Eng. Co.

5-     Recommendation of suitable coating for any region and report preparation

 

Among the results of this project is design and operation of software for selection of protective coating of pipelines for oil and gas transfer for the first time in Iran and such software gives possibility to all executives of piping projects of company to select type pf their own suitable coating with consideration t to status of their region.

-         Project for parametric study and tension analysis due to Surge phenomena

Creation of Surge phenomenon and its publication in pipelines due to long pipeline and lack of existing the wave breaker Reservoirs , caused pressure increase , imposing tension and vibrations in pipelines and there is possibility for serious damaging and arising damages to the complex/ Study of the conditions for creating the surge and response of valves , pumping centers and related installations may be a worthy  assistance in selection , installation and maintenance of the same.

This plan is dealing with study of surge effects due to some factors like closing the valves and stoppage of the pumps in route of pipelines and the related installation and presenting the required production for the same and determining the time and location of occurrence of maximum tension in pipeline at time of surge occurrence and also determining such quantity of tension maximum. The results of this projects can be used in the similar pipeline of Neka-Rey Pipeline and moreover it may be used in construction of pipeline for transferring the oil products in future , as well.

 

The current research projects

 

-         Project for application of method of durability time in seismic analysis of oil superstructure steel reservoirs

 

With consideration to the significance for assurance of operation of superstructure steel reservoirs during earthquake and at the same time the existing complexity in seismic analysis and interpretation of the due results , development and research in relation with the new and more efficient methods in this field seem to be required. The method of durability time is a general method based on analysis of time history  which has been presented at Sharif University recently and by performance of this plan its application has been developed in dynamic seismic analysis of reservoirs and while founding the new analytical  tools for assessment of tankers behavior , it may led to better understating the function of theses structures.

 

Objectives:

 

1-     study and development of application of durability time method is applied as a new method in analyzing the superstructure steel reservoirs analysis which are applied in oil industries for oil storage,

 

2-     Comparison of results of survey of such method with the normal methods of dynamic static analysis in these structures.

 

3-     Creation of standard and tangible methods based on non-linear analysis of time history for these structures in this project application of new method of durability time has been studied in analysis and assessment of seismic function of oil superstructure steel reservoirs and the amount of scattering the results and the confidentiality of this method has been studied in prediction of linear and non-linear behavior of reservoirs in comparison with the existing methods and the benefits and weakness points of this method is discussed and studied. The future development for application of such method in the other abnormal structures and /or the strengthening projects are facilitated by performing such plan.

-         Project for study of transfer of super-heavy crude oil by assistance of emulsion systems

 

Pipe, the necessity for design of a system for decreasing the crude oil viscosity is evident for facilitation of transfer and decreasing the operational charges due to high pressure decline in pipeline. Therefore in this project by using the native materials in Iran  an emulsion system shall be designed that has the required hydrodynamic specification for transferring in pipelines while having acceptable stability. The principles of processing technical know-how and dissolution of oil emulsion and also technical and economic assessment as to implementation of such system shall be realized . In the meantime the benefits and defects of any transfer methods of super heavy crude oil have been studied separately as to economic and environmental view points which shall be compared with the emulsion method.

 

Objectives:

1-     Study and survey of possibility of super heavy crude oil transport by assistance of oil/water emulsion systems and prediction of design parameters of transfer line

2-     Achievement of new techniques for transfer of heavy and super-heavy crude oil through pipeline , the technical know0how of emulsion production and dissolution as to applications of such research

3-     Transfer of super heavy crude oil through pipeline for refinery and export consumptions

4-     The capability for transferring the emulsion systems through pipelines in oil industry

 

This plan has not performed in Iran by now and in case of success shall bring about a new technology in oil industry arena and its results can be used in the processing big units like chemical and petrochemical industries.

Student projects

(in Ph.D. course)

 

-         Assessment of operation and geometrical specifications of composing  cutting walls

 

Objectives :

1-     increase of safety and strength of structure and high buildings and reservoirs against the side loading

2-     the possibility for strengthening the various structures if requires

 

 

 

 

Application :

For strengthening and construction of superstructure and substructure reservoirs , industrial , residential  and commercial structures with the strength capability against fire and increasing the strength and durability of structure against the environmental conditions.

 

In Master Degree Course:

-         Dynamic performance of reinforced building wall with FRP fabric under cycle loading

 

Objectives :

1-      study of dynamic performance of non-armed walls against the seismic loading and effect of composite materials as strengthening coating on side surface of wall and increasing the formation and strength of the same against seismic loading

 

2-      comparison of behaviors of one reinforced wall with the non-reinforced one against the seismic loading

 

3-      presenting the strengthening method of ????? by composite materials.

 

Application :

This method has been issued in most structures of oil industry of non-armed wall. Theses structural elements need study of well construction and strengthening against the dynamic forces and earthquake.

-         Study of buckling and super-buckling reservoirs with geometrical incompleteness under axle loading in lab. Method

 

Objective :

1-     Improvement of structural behavior of reservoirs at time of evacuation and creation of vacuum exposed loading force and prevention from their destruction

2-     Study of different sections and its effects as tankers hardener

3-     Bi-purpose and economic use of hardeners as structural member and access steps to reservoirs.

 

Application :

 

This project is used in all the cylinder reservoirs for storage of fuel materials in refiners and fuel transfer systems

Study of health structures in substructure and smart structure :

 

Objectives :

1-     making the smart and safe structures which correctly decides at time of earthquake

2-     simple and online control and supervision on structure and its specifications

3-     simple ,safe and rapid method for strengthening and operative of existing structures

4-     Discernment of disorder and determining its exact place without any need for non term discharge of structure

5-     Determining the specifications of the structure

6-     Very low expenses for repair and maintenance of structure
